Appeal from Members of Swedish Parliament
.......
Our opinion is that a Turkish invasion of Iraqi Kurdistan violates international law, no country has the right to occupy another country. Moreover, such an action contributes to increasing instability and diminishes possibilities for peace in the region.

Therefore we urge the Turkish Parliament to swiftly act to prevent a Turkish invasion of Iraqi Kurdistan.

Dear Sir/Madam,
In our Press Statement from 13.06.2002 we reported on the arrests of members of the pro-Kurdish HAK-PAR party (Party for Basic Rights and Freedom).
We asked you to protest to the Turkish government demanding the release of the 20 people detained.
Thanks to these protests all the detained HAK-PAR members in Diyarbakir have been released apart from Mehmet Eren, a journalist and member of HAK-PAR's leadership in Diyarbakir.
We wish to thank all organizations, institutions, internationals groups and individuals for their swift response which certainly contributed to the release of the HAK-PAR members.
We particularly wish to thanks of Amnesty International who began an Urgent Action on June 13th for the release of the HAK-PAR members.
The journalist Mehmet Eren remains, however, in detention. The public prosecutor from the State Security Court in Diyarbakir has brought charges against him on the basis of publications discovered during a house search. We therefore ask you to continue your efforts for his release.

Management Committee and the IMK e.V. Team
